Introduction to Josys browser extension

Modified on Sun, 31 Mar 2024 at 11:53 PM

The Josys browser extension is currently compatible with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. It serves as a discovery tool deployed on users' browsers to provide insights into SaaS usage. By analyzing user behavior, the Josys browser extension detects access to SaaS applications.

The browser extension monitors browser activities and sends collected data to the Josys server for analysis. Josys only collects data of legitimate SaaS apps which are part of our evolving App dictionary.  Importantly, no user data is transmitted to Josys. Collected information includes URL, timestamp, and tab opening/closing events. Each visit is recorded as an activity, aiding in app identification. The derived analytics assist in determining app usage frequency and integration with Josys.

It's essential to note that the extension does not access cookies, browser history, or website content during its operation.

Josys supports the following two ways of activation:

  1. Manual activation via email invite: The IT Admin sends an invite to the end-users to install and activate the Josys browser extension through email.
  2. Remote activation: The IT Admin activates the Josys browser extension on the end user's browser remotely.

Note: Josys recommends that you install the browser extension before sending the activation email invite.
